The Windows Live Expo team added several features to the site in recent weeks, including job listings from CareerBuilder.com.

About 400,000 CareerBuilder job listings have been added to Expo's jobs vertical, according to Classified Intelligence. "This is one of those categories where individuals aren't really posting," Expo product manager Garry Wiseman said, "so we are really beefing up the category."

The Team Expo blog listed the addition of job listings along with several other enhancements to Live Expo. Thos enhancements included PayPal integration, featured ads, improved search results, and tighter integration with Windows Live Messenger.

Microsoft's efforts to add CareerBuilder listings should have wrapped up today, after starting just before the weekend. Classified Intelligence described how the change will benefit job seekers using Live Expo:

(Job seekers) will now be able access a much larger database of job listings and use Expo's tools to search for jobs geographically, if they choose (for example, to search only for jobs within 25 or 50 miles of home), and use Expo's mapping facility to determine where the positions are located relative to their homes. On the individual job listings pages inside Expo, the "view more information" button takes the user to the listing on MSN Careers, including the options to apply for the position; that option is not offered on Expo.

"The way this affects MSN Careers is that we act as another index for their site," said Wiseman, "so they will receive additional traffic from consumers who searched for jobs through the Expo interface."
Classified advertising has proven an effective and popular online method of buying and selling items, and helping people find jobs or other services. Since the best known leader in the field, Craigslist, does not charge for most listings, competitors like Microsoft have to turn to advertising to monetize their classified efforts.
