Businesses Benefit From Reviews On Their Website

Small businesses that features reviews on their website are seeing significant returns, according to a new survey from RatePoint. Among the 30 percent of small business retailers who had product reviews on their websites, 43 percent said reviews had led to more sales, while 28 percent indicated they had resulted in more traffic.

Ad Council Launches New AOL-Backed Social Site for PSAs

The Advertising Council, which is the leading producer of public service announcements in the United States, has unveiled a new site at MyAdCouncil.org. The site is intended to encourage advertising agencies, media companies, and advertisers to expand the reach of their PSAs by using social media platforms.

Google Rolls Out Breadcrumb Display in SERPs

Update: Google announced today that it will now be rolling out the use of breadcrumbs in seach results on a global basis. They will only be used in place of some URLs - mainly the ones that don't give the added context of a link the way that the breadcrumbs do. Google says:

Some Bing Users Seeing Latest Posts on Publisher Searches

Bing appears to be either testing or rolling out a new feature for news sites in its search results. The feature brings up a few of the most recent posts from a news source, when that source itself is the query. I say this is either a test or a gradual roll out, because it is not happening in my own searches. TechCrunch has a piece about the feature (and a screenshot), which shows it, so evidently some people have it.

Does an Organic Search Presence Help Paid Result Performance?

A study from a couple of NYU Stern professors has found that organic search engine results can play a direct role in whether or not a paid listing is clicked. Basically, if this research is any indication, if your business has both a paid result and an organic result appear at the same time, you have a better chance of your paid result getting clicked than if the organic result had not appeared.

Google Exec: Docs Can Supplant Office In One Year

Dave Girouard, the president of Google's enterprise division, made an interesting admission earlier today, acknowledging that Google Docs isn't right for the average person.  But Girouard also made an interesting prediction, putting Google Docs about a year away from seriously challenging Microsoft Office.

Most people place a premium on speed.  Fast cars, fast computers, and even fast food joints are often regarded as better than slower-moving alternatives.  Google Earth users may be glad to hear, then, that Google Earth 5.1 has been released and speed is its most marketable quality.

Sony Can’t Guarantee E-Reader Holiday Shipments

Sony has begun taking pre-orders for its new electronic reader, the Reader Daily Edition, but due to unexpected demand it can't guarantee shipments before the holidays. Its $399 Reader Daily Edition is available for pre-order on SonyStyle.com, but the company says it will ship between December 18 and January 8, and "an actual delivery date cannot be guaranteed."
