Last night Ask.com hosted an afterparty at club LQ here in New York. Being the intrepid and dedicated souls we are, Jason Miller and I took one for the team and braved the hazards and horrors of open bars and loud music... and cool fighting robots and video games and well, you get the idea.

Ask.com gets high marks for a great after party. It wasn't just the robots, games, open bar etc mentioned above either. They really went an extra step and had some fun with the retiring of the butler. When you walked into the main area of Club LQ there is a large dance area (complete with battling remote controlled robots) and at the end of the dance area there is a small stage. Set on the stage was the butler, Jeeves himself, I suppose in a figurative final farewell to the world.

Yeah, big whoop right? Who cares, right? You might be thinking that, but that would only be because I have not yet explained to you why it was cool. That explanation requires but one word my friends. And that word is CARBONITE. That's right. Carbonite. As in they didn't just have some dude dressed as Jeeves set up on the stage. They had a full sized rendition of Jeeves encased in carbonite (think Han Solo from the Empire Strikes Back).

So there was Jeeves, like Solo, perfectly preserved and encased in carbonite. the TV screen behind the display had some long scrolling text (think the beginning of any Star Wars film). The scrolling text was explaining something about Jeeve's fate and the planet of Tatooine and whatnot - it was too far away and too long for me to really read the whole thing. But it was cool. As an aside I should probably explain that I am a pathetic wretch of a Star Wars junky.

We'd been there for an hour or so and I'd just finished explaining to Jason Miller exactly why this arrangement was cool (he isn't a Star Wars guy apparently). Then, lo and behold, out strolls a couple of storm troopers and the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter, Boba Fett himself. They flanked the ill-fated Jeeves and spent the rest of the night posing for shots and just generally looking really cool (except that one of the stormtroopers was actually a little too short - but that's forgivable).

So Ask had a good show, complete with a clever theme involving a franchise near and dear to my heart. I suppose I am, on some level, a little disappointed to see Star Wars used as a cheap gimmick to fuel a net company's hype but that is probably just because I'm a Star Wars fanatic. Besides, Boba Fett looked really cool. So, in all likelihood I really wouldn't have cared if he were peddling Amway as long as I got to check him out. And free drinks and video games? C'mon.

Today, now that I've had time to get over my Boba Fett fanboy syndrome and think about it a bit more. I am even more convinced in my opinion that we have not seen the last of Jeeves. After all, the carbonite didn't kill Han Solo. He got out early in the next movie. My money says ol Jeeves makes it out sooner or later.

We shall see.
