Twitter Performing Well In Australia

More and more prominent in terms of market share, influence

Twitter fans should be pleased to hear that it's almost definitely taking over the world.  U.S. stats have long indicated a strong growth pattern, data from the U.K. has done the same, and now, Hitwise has presented a report on Twitter's increasing influence on Australia.

Alan Long wrote, "Last week Twitter hit an all time high in terms of All Categories ranking and market share, according to Hitwise Australia..  Twitter is now the 26th ranked website visited by Australian Internet users (week ending 5 September 2009) . . ."

Plus, if you factor in hard-to-track visits made using mobile phones and different applications, it's likely even more popular.

Twitter seems to be an important part of the overall Web ecosystem, too, which may mean that it has some staying power.  Long continued, "Over the past 6 months the number of sites driving traffic to Twitter has increased 479% (comparing the weeks ending 5 September and 14 March 2009) . . ."  And "Twitter drives downstream visits to over 17,000 downstream websites (17,166 in week ending 5 September 2009) . . ."

It's interesting to imagine where Twitter will be in another six months if these trends keep up.
