Real-Time Search Engine Attracts $7 Million Funding

OneRiot Secures Investment from VCs

OneRiot, one of the real-time search engines whose name we keep hearing again and again has secured $7 million in Series C funding from Appian Ventures, Commonwealth Capital Ventures, and Spark Capital, the company’s existing venture capital firms.

"This commitment from our existing investors is a big vote of confidence in the realtime search market, OneRiot’s product offering, and our team’s ability to execute," said Kimbal Musk, OneRiot’s CEO.

OneRiot crawls links people share on Twitter, Digg, and other social networks, and indexes them in seconds. OneRiot describes itself on its own help page:

People use OneRiot to find the news, blogs and videos that the social web is buzzing about right now - the latest, breaking stuff that your friends think is important. If you're looking for the latest elimination on Top Chef, or the blog buzz on the next generation iPhone, then you search at OneRiot. If you're looking for library-style information, like your dentist's phone number or the recipe for pumpkin pie, you can find that on traditional search engines like Google, Yahoo and Live.

"Increasingly, the web's most relevant content is what our friends and other people are talking about, sharing and looking at right now," said Musk. "Using OneRiot people can find that content in realtime."

The site launched late last year, and its results are ordered using the OneRiot PulseRank algorithm, which the company describes as "PageRank for the realtime web." They have partnered with Yahoo and Microsoft, who recently released a version of Internet Explorer bundled with OneRiot real-time search.
