CareerBuilder Launches Social Network

Will take on LinkedIn

CareerBuilder has announced it has launched BrightFuse.com a social networking site geared towards professionals.

To clarify CareerBuilder originally launched BrightFuse in February 2008, but in its announcement it does not mention this detail. WebProNews contacted CareerBuilder for a comment but did not receive a response before publication.

CareerBuilder describes the site as a "free talent community for workers of all levels and industries to showcase their talents." BrightFuse offers users customizable profiles allowing them to post basic personal and professional information. In addition users can add recommendations from contacts, community activities, Twitter updates and RSS feeds to a blog or website.

"In this difficult job market, online networking is an important piece of the puzzle for workers wishing to build professional relationships, and ultimately, connect with their next great job," said Liz Harvey, senior director of online products for CareerBuilder.

"With more than 1.6 million users, BrightFuse.com has become a thriving professional community. Workers of all levels can use BrightFuse.com to have that important open dialogue - while promoting themselves and recommending others."

Other features of the site include a Facebook application that allows users to post the main information of their BrightFuse profile as a tab on their Facebook profile, tools to publish portfolio pieces and the ability to connect with related groups.

CareerBuilder has a well-known brand but if it wants BrightFuse to do well it will have to promote it heavily to even have a chance against LinkedIn.
