Twitter Phasing Out The Term Updates In Favor Of Tweets

Will they add a retweet feature?

Twitter has changed the word "updates" to "tweets" on user profiles. Though the change seems insignificant, it's the first time the famed microblogging site has used the term "tweet" on their site.

Twitter changes updates to tweets

Don't you think it was about time Twitter started using the term tweet? Tell us.

Earlier this month WebProNews featured an article about how Twitter was applying to have "tweet" trademarked. Twitter's own Biz Stone had the following to say about it:

"We have applied to trademark Tweet because it is clearly attached to Twitter from a brand perspective but we have no intention of "going after" the wonderful applications and services that use the word in their name when associated with Twitter. In fact, we encourage the use of the word Tweet. However, if we come across a confusing or damaging project, the recourse to act responsibly to protect both users and our brand is important."

With Twitter just beginning to use the term tweet, will they finally incorporate a "retweet" feature, that so many Twitterers want? What do you think? If so, does this spell trouble for the un-launched Retweet.com? Look at the logo below, see the little TM... I wonder what Twitter thinks about that?

With Twitter finally using the term tweet, how long before they change the text on the oversized "update button"? Let us know what you think.

Interesting

I like this post, it hits a different angle of perspective that others might not have thought about.

Don't you think most of the terms or even the core functions were created by the users themselves and then later adopted? The people have not gotten credit for so much they've done to help Twitter out.

We must pay attention to this 'adoption' vs. 'creation', and keep a close eye on who claims royalties. Don't let us be mistaken, we KNOW who created "retweet" ... The People.

Retweet

Nice post, i also agree with your idea
