Windows 7 Hits Manufacturing

Windows Users Can't Wait to Get it

Microsoft has announced the release (to manufacturing) of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the next versions of its desktop and server operating systems.

"With the completion of this development phase, industry partners are readying products in time for the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 worldwide general launches," the company said in a statement.

There has been a lot of enthusiasm building for Windows 7, as you can tell from tweets like this:

Whether or not you've used Vista, you've no doubt heard endless gripes about it. It has not been the company's most popular incarnation of Windows. Many users have opted to "downgrade" to Windows XP rather than submit to the ways of Vista.

Windows 7 will be generally available to customers around the world on October 22nd. Windows Server 2008 R2 will become generally available even before that. Current customers of the Windows Volume Licensing program, Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) subscribers and TechNet subscribers will be among the first to get customer access to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Once Bit, Twice Shy...

I rushed out and got Windows Vista Ultimate as soon as it came out. It was more stable than XP by far, but a lot of my software was incompatible for almost a full year, so I won't be chomping at the bit to get Windows 7.

Once bit, twice shy.

Don't bother with windows at all. Save yourself the headache and buy a Mac.
