I've still got the old homepage. When is the new design going to be unvieled?
Yahoo is in the process of rolling out its new home page design. The design has been widely discussed since last year, but is finally making its way throughout the US.
While the design does not appear to be available to all of us yet, some have been fortunate enough to experience it, and consider it an improvement.
"The official launch of what was codenamed 'Metro,' which Yahoo had previously said was coming in the fall, will take place on an opt-in 'beta' basis for the hundreds of millions of users in the U.S. and will be extended to France, the U.K. and India later this week," says Kara Swisher of All Things Digital, who provides the following screenshots.

For fun, Swisher also has provided a nice look at what the Yahoo homepage has looked like over the last 15 years. Go here to see a nice retrospective.
The latest incarnation lets users customize the page with different third-party apps, like with Facebook in the above screenshot. It looks like this provides some additional ad space as well.
The app list, which is customizable, can hold up to 36 apps. Think of it basically like having browser tabs (or Firefox bookmarks) to your favorite sites on the front page of Yahoo for easy access.
Customization is a direction Yahoo has certainly been pointing in for a while now. We've seen this with things like SearchMonkey and Search BOSS, which allow users to customize search results.
What do you think about Yahoo's new home page? Are you seeing it yet?

yahoo for yahoo!
I'm a long-time yahoo user and must say I am digging the new page layout. The differences aren't drastic (which is good--people are typically scared by change), but they are noticeable improvements in functionality and customization.
I noticed that while most of the vertical tabs/apps will open a new box when hovered over, some aren't. Like, for example, maps and bookmarks. Also, the facebook tab seems glitchy. After logging into facebook via the yahoo portal, I am still not getting access to facebook through the yahoo tab. But since the new layout is still in the beta stage, bugs are to be expected. Over all, I am excited about the changes and look fwd to its global release.
