Google Photography Prize Voting Begins

Pick the best new iGoogle theme

About one month ago, Google put out a call for students to submit photo collections.  Now, the Google Photography Prize contest is coming to a head as 36 groups of pictures have been made into iGoogle themes and voting has begun.

A post on the Official Google Blog explains the rest of the process.  "[T]he most popular six you choose will make it to the finals."  Next, "The 6 finalists will be exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London and have the chance to win the first prize of £5,000 ($7,500), plus an invitation to spend the day with the internationally renowned photographer Martin Parr."

Mikhail Simin - Vote For A Theme

It's important that you place your vote before June 17th if you want to affect the outcome of this competition.  Consider taking a look at the themes sooner, too, because several of them are rather nice.  And here's an added bonus: you can pick any of the themes for your own iGoogle account, regardless of which one wins.

This contest will definitely benefit some participating students and iGoogle users, then.  It's probably worked out for Google, too, of course.  By turning to young students (who have all sorts of online friends), the search giant must've generated a lot of interest in iGoogle, and it's gotten some fine artwork in the process.

Good luck to each of the last 36 contestants.
