Cloud computing services company AppRiver has made available its Digital Disaster Recovery Program, a free email redirection service offered in the event of a natural disaster.
The service allows companies facing natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, etc., to redirect incoming email to AppRiver servers if there is an email server outage to maintain email continuity. Once the storm has passed, so to speak, and connectivity is restored, AppRiver forwards the email back to company servers.
“The Digital Disaster Recovery Program was designed to protect business e-mail and productivity during times of natural disaster,” said AppRiver CEO Michael Murdoch. “Because e-mail has become an integral part of doing business today, even momentary downtime can have serious consequences for an organization’s bottom line.
The process does require registration and comfortableness with third-party monitoring of a company’s email servers. Once registration is complete and a set of instructions completed, AppRiver begins monitoring immediately. When a loss in connectivity is detected, the program automatically redirects incoming email to AppRiver datacenters.
This is the first time AppRiver has made the Digital Disaster Recovery Program available outside of Florida. In 2005, the Florida Chamber of Commerce partnered with the company to create it as part of the Hurricane Preparedness Program.
