Sony’s Crackle Adds More Movies

Nearly 100 titles

Crackle, Sony Pictures Entertainment's video website, announced today it is expanding its film offering to nearly 100 titles.

Sony says more titles from its movie library will be added to Crackle in the coming months. Some of the newly added films include "Spider-Man 2," "Groundhog Day," and "A Few Good Men." Honda will be the initial sponsor for the new film additions.

"These are movies that matter for guys 18-34 and this is the next step in creating our direct to consumer network," said Eric Berger, senior vice president, digital networks for Sony Pictures Television.

Sony hopes the movie will help Crackle to attract more viewers and increase the time spent on the site. Crackle had three million unique viewers in March that spent an average of just five minutes on the site, according to comScore. Hulu by comparison had 42 million unique viewers who spent an average of 57.9 minutes on the site.

In addition, Crackle has launched Cinemactive, an interactive pop culture trivia game related to movie video clips.

"Cinemactive brings a whole new element to online filmgoing," said Berger.  "From themes such as 'Appetite for Apatow' to 'Villain Hall of Fame,' we've used our library to create an interactive game experience around movies for those who think they know everything about them, or those who just want to learn more in a fun way."
