Twitter Sees Big Growth in March, Co-founders Talk

It's About How You Use it

Research from comScore shows that Twitter has jumped 131% in March to 9.3 million visitors in the U.S. This is an increase of 5 million visitors from February.

So just why is Twitter getting so popular? It's a great question considering that you're still likely to hear just as many saying they don't get the point of Twitter as those embracing it.

The fact of the matter is, Twitter is something different to everybody. Co-founder Biz Stone put it pretty well in this interview Kara Swisher at Boomtown was able to score at the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco:

Stone says Twitter is about people. Different groups are finding different ways to use it. This is evident as we see different examples nearly every day. For some, it's a way to market their business. For others it's a customer service tool. For some it's a way to find breaking news. For others, it's a reputation management tool. For most, it's probably just a way to communicate with people and make friends.

The point is, Twitter is just a tool. How you use it is up to you. The point of it is whatever you want it to be.

An unknown band used it to get 3,000 downloads. The NHL is using it for hockey fan Tweetups. Poker players are using it to tell people how drunk they are. The possibilities are seemingly endless. Some even predict that Twitter is the future of local search.

On a side note, Swisher also shares this video of a tour of the Twitter headquarters. There's no big news story here or anything, but it's kind of cool just to see where it all happens.

What different uses have you seen for Twitter? Do you think it will continue to grow rapidly? Comment.

Twitter's Astronomical Growth & How To Make Money Using It

I really like Twitter. I have only used it for a few weeks, and already have prospects wanting to buy my products, and services. My question is what will Twitter do if they can't figure out a way to monetize their business? Sell out to Google? That is what I think they are working on right now. Think about it, if you were new to being a popular website like a celebrity status one. Would you be scared that your entire career would be tainted for not properly managing Twitter to its full potential? Personally I would want to make sure that I perform with laser point precision if I were under the lime light.

People

Twitter is about real-time interaction with people and that what make it different and special.

I think it will continue on growing up but the idea is about how the servers will handle such expantion and this returns us back to the point mentioned elsewhere over 'webpronews' regarding the accqustation of Twitter or cooperation with other giants like Google.
