Report: T-Mobile Finding New Uses For Android

Home phone, tablet PC on the way

T-Mobile's G1 cell phone has been on the market for about six months now, and the communications company must be quite happy with its performance.  A new report indicates that T-Mobile intends to tie the Android operating system to a home phone and tablet PC, as well.

Google Android

It sounds like some fairly neat tech is involved.  Not cutting edge, perhaps, but more sophisticated than what could be considered normal.

Ashlee Vance wrote, "T-Mobile's use of Android to advance its ambitions . . . shows just how blurry the line has become between phones and computers.  Its tablet-size phone device resembles a small laptop without a keyboard and has a seven-inch touch screen.  It would handle basic computing jobs like checking the weather or managing data across a variety of devices in the home."

So Android is likely to become an operating system that a lot of people will associate with accessible advances.  So long as it doesn't get dinged too much for being linked to landlines, anyway.

T-Mobile's Android-based home phone and tablet computer are supposed to be released sometime next year.  Prices haven't yet been announced.
