More and more people are getting online without first sitting in front of a desk and waiting for a large box to boot up.  A new report from Infonetics Research indicates that the mobile broadband market is growing by leaps and bounds instead.

 

According to a statement by Richard Webb, the Directing Analyst of WiMAX, Microwave, and Mobile Devices at Infonetics, "Growth in the number of mobile broadband subscribers hit triple-digit percents in all the major world regions in 2008, indicating a booming market."

This seems to mean the recession is having very little impact on mobile broadband adoption.  Or if anything, the poor state of the global economy might be improving it as folks opt for less expensive devices and obsessively check their portfolios.

As for the future, Infonetics expects that growth in this industry will continue well through 2013, at which point there should be over 1 billion mobile broadband subscribers.  Manufacturers of mobile broadband PC cards and routers are liable to make a lot of money in the meantime.

Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft will no doubt do their best to earn some revenue off the trend, too, although Infonetics didn't get into which company might come out on top.
