The most recent annual report the Sacramento Police Department has put online comes from 2006, and at that point, it employed fewer than 1,300 people on a fulltime basis.  Lance Armstrong, in comparison, has over 115,000 followers on Twitter.  So when one of Armstrong's bicycles was taken, the athlete didn't ignore that second resource.

At about 8 AM local time yesterday, Armstrong, who's participating in the Tour of California, tweeted, "Whoa!!  They just came to my room and said our truck was broken into and someone stole my time trial bike!  Wtf?!?  APB out to the twitterati."

 

He then supplied a picture of the custom bicycle and noted, "There is only one like it in the world therefore hard to pawn it off."

The Livestrong Trek TTX bike is thought to be worth around $10,000.  Armstrong's offering a reward (of an unspecified amount).

The good news here is that, since Armstrong had a spare bicycle handy, the theft didn't interfere with the cyclist's short-term racing plans.  Armstrong is currently in fifth place in the Tour of California, and is working up to participating in another Tour de France.
