Google Rides the Internet Bus to India

Shows People of Tamil Nadu What the Internet Has to Offer

Today, Google launched an initiative called the Internet Bus Project, designed to show off  all the Internet has to offer to cities in Tamil Nadu, India. The purpose is to introduce people that are not familiar with the Internet to the education, information, communication, and entertainment it has to offer.

"Over the last few years, we've been witnessing a steady growth in Internet adoption, but we wanted to do more to directly engage the offline population of India," say Product Managers Prem Ramaswami and Srikanth Belwadi.  "So we're hitting the road over the next month and a half to demonstrate how the Internet can make everyday tasks simple with tools like Google Search, Gmail, Google Maps and more."

The bus will be ready to go with plenty of useful content in both English and Tamil. "We'll showcase how the Internet can make everyday life simple through services like search, email, social networking, maps and others."

Necessity

Its like asking people to go and have food at a restaurant if they don't have food at home to eat... daah!!! over there there are regions dont get electricity, what are they going to do if they don't have electricity... what kind of dumb idea is this...

It's easy to dismiss an idea

It's easy to dismiss an idea as 'dumb', but those 'dumb' ideas is what eventually clicks. Beleive it or not, India is one of those few countries which has more television, cell phones etc than any other nations, I think this idea is amazing too. Its not like there us no power 24x7 or somethinh. I am sure this idea will eventually click too. Good luck guys.
