Google Opens New Office For Federal Enterprise Sales

Vint Cerf sets up shop in Reston, too

In a recession, steady customers are a business's best friend, and it's hard to name anything as rock-solid (impending change of leadership aside) as the U.S. government.  So Google's done a rather clever thing and opened an office for the federal division of its Enterprise Sales group in Reston, Virginia.

Strictly speaking, the move may not have been necessary; Google has another office in nearby D.C., and already seems to count some important people among its friends.  On the Google Public Policy Blog, Mike Bradshaw described an open house by writing, "Joining us . . . were Virginia Delegate Ken Plum, Fairfax County Supervisor Cathy Hudgins, and Fairfax County Economic Development Authority President and CEO Dr. Gerry Gordon."

He then continued, "Also joining us to announce their new community partnerships with Google were Reston Interfaith CEO Kerrie Wilson and Fairfax County Public Schools' Dr. Jack Dale, Superintendent, and Jay Garant, Business and Community Partnerships Coordinator."

But it shouldn't hurt the search giant to have a second base in the Washington area.  Making the Reston location even more interesting is the fact that Vint Cerf is calling it his home, too.

The Reston office should accommodate around 30 employees, and while not decorated with solid gold statues, is done out in typical Google-y fashion.
