As you may have read, Yahoo News was the number one site for traffic the night of the U.S. Presidential election. While they may have had the most traffic of anybody on the web, they were certainly not the only ones to experience record numbers. Digg, for example received the most traffic in the site's history.. Unfortunately for some users, this led to problems using it.

Digg the Blog shares the following stats for the hour that that Obama was announced as the winner of the Presidency:

- Submitting was 108% of normal.
- Digging was 202% of normal.
- Burying was 137% of normal.
- Commenting was 278% of normal.
- Comment Digging was 619% of normal.
- Comment Burying was 689% of normal.

Digg also shares the following data of resulting traffic one one of their DB chains:



As a result of all of the traffic and activity, Digg got to see where some holes in its system were. Then they were able to address those holes. "Thanks to Obama, the many people who took interest in the elections, and our digg community, we have been able to fix the bug," says Driver on Digg the Blog. "We’re always grateful for your participation and feedback on Digg. It’s incredibly helpful."

I'm not going to get into all of the technical aspects of these holes, but for those interested you can read more about it (along with some more graphical data) here. I have to wonder how many other sites had some major bugs exposed on election night though.
