Microsoft Promotes Live Search In Canada With Contest

Giving away cash, cars

Microsoft has introduced a new contest to Canadian users in an effort to promote its Live Search.

The promotion is called "Big Ticket" an online card game. Users are randomly dealt two cards when they conduct a query on Live Search. If the cards match users will be eligible to win a prize.

Users who have two cards that match will see a notification on their screen that reads, "Congratulations, you are an eligible winner of", a selected prize. If the cards don't match users will see a message that says," Thank you for playing. Please try again."

Eligible winners will need to complete an online entry form and there is a limit of one prize per person during the contest period, which runs until December 31. Users can enter the contest an unlimited amount of times.

Microsoft is giving away one prize every hour and the odds of winning are based on the time a user plays and the number of users playing at the same time.

Some of the prizes being given away include a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer SE, $10,000 cash, a Sony entertainment center, an HP laptop, Xbox 360, a Zune, and tickets to the Toronto Raptors basketball games.

Contests are a great way to promote a website. Obviously Microsoft Canada has deep pockets and can afford expensive prizes, but in my experience even inexpensive prizes can draw lots of visitors.
