Money Made Off of Virtual Pets

While some Facebook gaming apps are causing users to have their Facebook accounts revoked, others are making their owners some money. (fluff)Friends, a Facebook game application, which perhaps highlights why Fox News called Facebook's crowd "more sophisticated" than MySpace's, has been bought by Social Gaming Network.

SGN

(fluff)Friends is a game that allows users to adopt virtual pets, interact with their friends' pets and compete to earn virtual currency. You can adopt anything from an elephant to a piece of Tofu. It was created by Google's Mike Sego and Facebook's own Julie Zhou.

The game has seen a tremendous amount of popularity with Facebook users. It gained 100,000 users in its first week alone, making it the 14th most popular Facebook app according to Inside Facebook. Social Gaming Network offers games available on Facebook as well as MySpace, Bebo, and Hi5.

"We are looking forward to joining forces with SGN to make (fluff)Friends a much greater gaming experience for our users. The SGN team is very creative and focused on building great games and great user experience, which is why we know (fluff)Friends together with SGN will be a powerful combination."

SGN investors include Bezos Expeditions, Columbia Capital, Founders Fund, Novak Biddle Venture Partners, and Greylock Partners. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
