HBO Launching Online Comedy Series

Features Jessica Rose

HBOlab, the online division of the cable company HBO, has announced it is launching a new web series featuring Jessica Rose of lonelygirl15.

Hooking Up

The online program will be a 10-episode scripted comedy, called Hooking Up. Hooking UP will have its own Web site and will also be available for viewing on MySpace and YouTube, which gave most of the people appearing in the series their start.

The show is set to launch October 1 and along with Jessica Rose will feature YouTube video blogger sxePhil along with KevJumba, YouTube's most subscribed to comedian.

The plot of Hooking Up revolves around a group of characters who are enrolled in a fictional university where they spend the majority of their time emailing, instant-messaging and Twittering, but are always miscommunicating.

The show will also offer social networking features and the series characters will have their own Facebook pages. No advertising will be part of the first season, but HBO could add sponsors if the series continues.

HBOlab has focused on creating the online hub Runway Box, a collection of comedy videos that will continue to run.

Hooking Up is written and directed by Woody Tondorf, a HBOlab staffer who also has a role in the series.
