It's a teensy bit ironic that the first overseas launch of Google's Street View related to the Tour de France.  Street View now appears to be holding a speed trial of its own, you see, with images of Australia, Japan, and over 30 American cities getting released yesterday evening.

Camera icons are scattered all over Google Maps's representation of Australia, and a great deal of the country is covered in shades of blue.  On the LatLong Blog, Stephen Chau acknowledged, "Our imagery for Australia includes extensive coverage throughout the country, featuring cities such as Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne - and many places in between."

Japan seems to have been covered less thoroughly, but photos of Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo are still available.

As for the old U.S. of A., Baton Rouge, Colorado Springs, New Orleans, and Wichita are named as being among the updated spots.  Frank Taylor also caught a bunch of Googlers and a marriage proposal on display in Mountain View.

To say much more would turn this article into a droning list of cities; the expansion deals with an undeniably large number of them.  We'd only suggest that, if things continue at this pace, it might be more appropriate for Google to focus on F1 races instead of bicycle competitions.
