The New York Times recently claimed that the "year of the political blogger" has arrived. While that might be a true statement, it is certainly not limited to the American political agendas discussed in that article. In case you didn’t hear the collective explosions powercharging out of heads around the country, Republican Presidential nominee John McCain picked Alaska governor Sarah Palin for his vice presidential running mate. Since the news broke a little while ago, Wikipedia might as well be on fire, but despite a rapid community editing free for all, her page was prepared fairly far in advance.  

Lexmark Releases Free Printing Toolbar

Ever try to print a webpage and end up printing a mess of links, graphics, and tables you don’t need? Printer manufacturer Lexmark has released a free toolbar allowing users to simplify the process of printing from the Web without carrying all that Web junk from screen to paper. The company says the new toolbar will help save expensive ink. It’s available for recent versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox, for Windows versions after Windows 2000.

Yahoo!'s Social Network Aspirations Mashed

While most other outlets seem to be finding new ways to get more social, Yahoo! has accepted the fact that it is not their strong suit. Yahoo!'s social media project Yahoo! Mash is about to become a corpse. It appears that a lack of interest has caused the company to give up on it. Users of the social network received an email from Yahoo! saying:

If the watchful eye of Google has been creeping you out with Street View, you're going to love this. Their satellite imagery is about to get a big boost in resolution courtesy of GeoEye.

Android Developer Challenge Concludes

The Android Developer Challenge has ended, and there's no doubt that it worked out well for developers - ten teams each received $275,000 awards and another ten got $100,000 apiece.  Things seem to be headed in the right direction for Android users, too.

Microsoft is looking to boost its online shopping search market share. The company has announced an acquisition of Greenfield Online, owners of popular shopping search site Ciao.com. This is the largest purchase Microsoft has made in a while. The company appears to be playing around with the money it had left from the Yahoo deal falling through. They dropped 486 million big ones on this one.
