In many ways, money is YouTube's main problem. YouTube can't make it, Viacom wants it, and most users don't receive it. But that third issue should soon cease to apply to at least a few folks in Germany and France.
Yes, YouTube's Partner Program is on the move again, making it present in a total of eight countries now. The Program is a way for content creators to get a share of advertising revenue, and they should get a slight promotional boost out of the deal, as well. This is sure to make some people more fond of YouTube.
A couple of problems remain, of course, and the m-word comes into play. Mainly, the amount of money YouTube's partners are getting out of the arrangement is a secret. And even if they're receiving lots, the Partner Program's entry requirements ("You regularly upload videos that are viewed by thousands of YouTube users") remain high, so few people are benefiting.
It's hard to moan too much when YouTube's trying to do a nice thing, though, and with the economy the way it is (Google's stock dropped by 4.03 percent today), this development has to be viewed as mildly amazing.
It seems like "danke" and "merci" are the appropriate responses.
