The importance of social networks in modern politics has been proven numerous times as the presidential race has progressed.  Now, perhaps as a sort of reward, two MySpace users will be sent to report on the Democratic and Republican national conventions.

Interested parties are being asked to make short videos explaining why they vote, why they're the best person for this job, or how they'll differentiate themselves from the crowd and get a unique scoop.  MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Willie Geist, along with MySpace's Tom Anderson and Lee Brenner, will pick five finalists, and then the MySpace community should take it from there.

Once everything's decided, "The two winning video and text-based reports will be featured on the Decision '08 community and in MSNBC's convention coverage," according to a release.

Mark Lukasiewicz, Vice President of Digital Media at NBC News, explained, "The 'Decision '08 Convention Contest' will give everyone in the MySpace community and all of msnbc.com's users the chance to experience the political process first-hand, and share that experience with their peers during this crucial election."

Video submissions lasting more than one minute and less than two will be accepted through 3 PM EDT on July 16th.  Equal weighting will be given to creativity, originality, political knowledge, and entertainment value/appeal when it comes to scoring the clips.
