An Edinburgh couple who claim to have wanted the domain as a birthday gift for their son may have to give him a lesson in copyrights as a gift. The estate, bolstered by its legacy being produced for movies, wants the domain handed over to it.
The BBC said Richard Saville-Smith faces the wrath of Lewis' benefactors, who filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization.
"Our whole family are great admirers of CS Lewis and he must be turning in his grave about all this," Saville-Smith's wife Gillian said in the report.
The family's stated intention for the domain would not be a commercial one. However, purchasing the name of such a well-known property seems an unwise move.
Hope may exist for the Saville-Smiths, however. Rogers Cadenhead managed to defeat MGM in a battle for wargames.com. MGM plans a sequel to the 1983 movie and wanted Wargames.com for itself; Cadenhead sells wargames at the site and managed to hold off MGM in arbitration.
