YouTube Continuing API Push

Post to Twitter Post to Facebook

Draws attention to TV partnerships, upcoming conference

"API" has been a sort of buzzword for a while, with many of the major players putting forth offerings.  Now YouTube's placing its own APIs - and past, API-related accomplishments - in the spotlight.

The YouTube Team seems especially proud of developments involving television, dedicating a blog post to "YouTube in your Living Room."  The list of partners is indeed impressive, with Apple, HP, Panasonic, Sony, and TiVo all getting named.  We're still not sure that YouTube videos will look visually appealing on big screens, but, well, whatever.

The YouTube Team writes, "All these partners used the YouTube APIs to build their products.  One partner's summary of their experience with the APIs: 'The YouTube API was very simple, but powerful.  It enabled us to develop our user interface flexibly and quickly.' Music to our ears!"

If you want to check out the YouTube APIs for yourself, a "Powered by YouTube" developer gathering is scheduled to take place on July 10th.  Register if you can make it to San Bruno (the event itself is free); know that there'll likely be news to watch out for if you can't.

YouTube's leaders are intent on taking the video-sharing site well beyond traditional computers.  Notwithstanding the television stuff, it should be interesting to see what they come up with.

The higher quality YouTube

The higher quality YouTube videos that you see are using Apple's H264 codec. They have starting converting their videos to this codec to be compatible with the iPhone, as well as to break dependency on Flash.

Hi-Res Videos in a new Light

I recently noticed that some youtube videos are available in a Hi-Res version. Apparently, youtube has stored the original videos and if the original is high enough quality, you can watch it in a higher quality. This seems like a step in the direction of displaying those videos on TV. Vi Wickam Zello Pages http://www.Zello.us Local Search that Works
