A Third Of UK Internet Users Bank Online

10.9 million banked online

Online financial services are used by about a third of the total U.K. online population, according to a new comScore report.

Thirty-three percent of UK Internet users did online banking in January, accounting for 10.9 million customers who used at least one online account in the first month of the year.

The most popular online banking brand was the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) with 2.9 million visitors, driven largely by the 2 million people who accessed NatWest's online banking service.

The most popular individual online banking brand was Lloyds TSB with 2.8 million customers. It was also the most frequently visited online banking service, averaging 6.8 visits per customer during January.

Other popular banking brands in the UK include Halifax Bank of Scotland, which had 2.4 million visitors in January, HSBC with 2.3 million visitors, and Barclays Bank with 1.7 million visitors.

The numbers from comScore do not include traffic from Internet cafes or access from mobile phones or PDAs.
