Stranger-Than-Fiction Google Domain Names

Food, feces, and the F-word

You know those monkeys that are supposed to recreate the works of Shakespeare?  Judging from some of the strange domain names Google owns, the company appears to have hired a handful of them.

The good people of Pingdom did some digging, and report, "We found all of these domain names by processing the root zone file for the .com top-level domain. We also confirmed that the domain names in this post are owned by Google by looking at domain WHOIS information for the ones we included."

With issues relating to credit and technique covered, then, we'll get on to the names. Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooogle.com is one of the more unusual ones - 36 zeros are rather random-looking.  30dayfitness.com, essentialmommy.com, greengardengifts.com, mariolovespasta.com, and thesecretofburritos.com don't have anything whatsoever to do with tech.

Then there are the things that don't tie well to Google - yet.  Google4kids.com, Googlebackups.com, Googleauction.com, Googlebroadband.com, Googlecasinogames.com, Googlelovers.com, and Googlepersonals.com all have an interesting ring.  And if we can switch animals for a moment, Googlereligion.com and Googlefaith.com go even farther down the rabbit hole.

A number of the other names merely seem like things Google would want to keep away from its detractors - think about Googlepoo.com or a couple we won't list, for example.  Still, it's impossible not to wonder where a lot of this stuff came from.
