People looking for a job should turn to online networking sites to help with the search a new survey finds.

Sixty-seven percent of executives polled said they believe professional networking Web sites like LinkenIN will be useful in the search for job candidates in the next three years according to a survey by recruitment firm Robert Half International.

"Networking sites can be used to identify new career opportunities, create online profiles that highlight one's skills and experience, and build a roster of business contacts over time," said Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half International and author of Job Hunting For Dummies.

Twenty-five percent of respondents said they would use social networking sites such as MySpace or Facebook as a recruiting resource.

Messmer recommends that job seekers should not put all their focus on online networking sites. "Tried-and-true methods such as networking at industry events, submitting well-written resumes and cover letters, and diligently following up with hiring managers are still essential to landing the ideal job," Messmer said.

"Combining personal and online networking offers the best of both worlds."
