CBS Trying Hand At Citizen Journalism

Upload content from mobile phone

CBS has launched a citizen journalism Web site where users can upload video and images of news events from their mobile phones.

Users of Cbseyemobile.com can upload content from their phones by sending an MMS to the short code "85888" or by email. Users can enter a brief description into the body of the text or email to explain what the content is about.

CBS wants content covering breaking news, weather, sports and politics. It has some of its own content on the site in hopes of attracting more uploads. CBS has yet to formally promote the site on television but that should be happening soon.

CNN launched a similar citizen journalism project called iReport in August 2006. It later expanded into its own Web site earlier this year.
