Wal-Mart is giving refunds for HD DVD players purchased on or after November 1. To receive a refund customers need to return the players by April 30 with a receipt. Original packaging is not required.

Best Buy is offering $50 gift cards to customers who purchased an HD DVD player or an HD DVD unit for a Microsoft Xbox 360 videogame console before February 23. Those who receive gift cards can keep their HD DVD players.

Best Buy will mail the gift cards by May 1 to customers who bought warranties or who are in its "Reward Zone" program. The gift cards will not expire. If you did not purchase a warranty or are not in the rewards program you can call 1-888-BestBuy to participate. You will need your receipt or credit card information as proof of purchase.

Customers wanting to get rid of a player can visit Best Buy's online trade-in center. It does not matter where it was purchased. Customers can ship the player free of charge by printing out a prepaid shipping label. A gift card will be sent in 10-14 days. The amount will vary depending on the model.
