When Android was first announced, AT&T didn't have very nice things to say about it. The company's tone has become much more positive, however - even to the point that AT&T seems ready to work with the mobile platform.
"If it's good for customers we'll offer it like any other OS," said Ralph de la Vega, the president and CEO of AT&T Mobility, at a recent conference. And while this statement's still not a commitment, Nancy Gohring reports that he continued, "It is something we'd want in our portfolio."
It would be more surprising if AT&T didn't cooperate - Sprint and T-Mobile are already onboard, with Verizon not offering any resistance - but this coming-together is still interesting to watch.
Yahoo and Microsoft are undoubtedly paying attention. Both companies are, like Google, interested in the mobile market, and no doubt want to keep the search giant from establishing yet another near-monopoly.
We'll see what happens. de la Vega didn't give any timeframes, but it seems like AT&T could churn out an Android-based phone in short order.

Just Like AT&T
(In my humble opinion) Sounds like typical AT&T - be totally negative about something until they think tjat they can make a buck. AT&T cares only about money - taking more, charging more, and providing the least amount of service for it.
I enjoy seeing Google be successful but I wish that they would not do business with the likes of AT&T.
