Verizon's very excited that 12 eastern states now officially have access to its "new ulra-fast" 7 megabits per second High Speed Internet Service. The issued a very excited-sounding press release about it. The release is maybe limited to a few US states because if released in Hong Kong, they'd just laugh at them.
 

"This faster High Speed Internet service provides a more enjoyable online experience that supports everything from sharing remote work files, gaming and viewing video clips over Verizon's reliable network," said Susan Retta, vice president, broadband solutions for Verizon.
 

Give her a break. It's a hard-sell.
 

Verizon introduced the 7 megabit service to 12 states all along the east coast, nearly all of the original colonies: Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia.
 

Verizon's new "ultra-fast" service is still less than 10 times slower than Hong Kong's 100 megabits per second low-end service, which runs about the same price as Verizon's. The blistering service is available for about $40 month plus a contract.
 

At this rate we'll reach 100 megabits by…2070 or so?
 

In all fairness, it is faster by 1 megabit than the (lack of) competition. If given more than a choice between the other phone company and a cable company in my area, I might consider signing up for the new "ultra-fast" offering.
