Pakistan Shutters YouTube

Leads to global outage

Pakistan forced all Internet service providers in the country to block the YouTube Web site for hosting "blasphemous" content it said was offensive to Islam.

The move by Pakistan led to a near worldwide outage of the site, which lasted close to two hours. YouTube said the outage was due to "erroneous Internet protocols," sourced in Pakistan.

"Traffic to YouTube was routed according to erroneous Internet protocols, and many users around the world could not access our site," Google said. We have determined that the source of these events was a network in Pakistan. We are investigating and working with others in the Internet community to prevent this from happening again."

Pakistan blocked YouTube because it included Danish cartoons portraying the Prophet Muhammad in a negative light. "They [Pakistan's telecommunications authority] asked us to ban it immediately... and the order says the ban will continue until further notice," said Wahaj-us-Siraj, convener of the Association of Pakistan Internet Service Providers, according to the BBC.

Reporters Without Borders condemned the action taken by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). It should not be up to the PTA to order this kind of blocking," the organization said. "Such a decision should be taken by the courts, not by a body that is under the government's control."

Pakistan Doesn't Block Public Execution. I am offended!

I think that is absurd! We already have certain bans enacted in the US because of Islam. We don't want to offend anyone about this, that or the other thing.  Are we going to let the internet be sensored as well? Unfortunately there are lots of things that should be banned from the internet. First & foremost, the public murder of human beings by decapitation. I don't hear Pakistan openly asking al quadea NOT to show public executions of innocent human beings on film or al arabia. As a Christian, I am very offended by that. Perhaps I should call them & call for the immediate opposition to muslim directed killings on film. I think it's time to stop and smell the roses. Life is short, the future is uncertain.

My advice to ALL Muslims is to take the day off & go fishing! Jesus Christ was a fisherman. Was Muhammad a fisherman?

Do you think PTA should wait for courts order and during mean time peoples in pakistan might be killed and routs have taken place.

Its youtube that should feel some responsibility and avoid uploading of this type of videos.
