New Humor Site Launches

Started by former UPN CEO

A new humor Web site has launched in beta called Comedy.com The site was launched by former UPN CEO Dean Valentine.

The site allows users to vote on and recommend videos and features original content filmed in a production studio in Santa Monica. Users can submit videos, text and audio files, which are promoted on the site by the number of vote they receive.

User can search for specific jokes and comedians along with having access to social networking tools, like blogs. Besides original Web series the site features an "insult ticker" in the tool bar which streams one-liners. It also features a Joke of the Day posting.

The site will be competing with a number of other comedy sites including FunnyorDie, MyDamnChannel and 60 frames. For now Comedy.com does not have any ads but plans to introduce them in the coming months.

"What we're trying to do is take the best and most innovative comedians and the most innovative Web 2.0 tools and create an online destination for comedy," Valentine told Variety . "Much like the (newspaper) funnies did for an earlier generation, we want this to be a daily dose of fun for people."
