Ripley's Owner Acquires Guinness World Records
When odd sites attract
Guinness World Records has documented some straightforward stuff, but certain things can be pretty strange, too. In what seems like a logical enough deal, then, the owner of Ripley's Believe It or Not has acquired the Guinness World Records brand for $118 million.
Maybe this doesn't look directly related to eBusiness, but as anyone who's tried to read a Guinness book can tell you, all those records aren't best examined right in a row. Large quantities of pounds, feet, and minutes all mix together until few things seem impressive. Learning about several quirks at a time through the official website is probably better.
So the Guinness World Records site, along with everything else related to the brand, will now belong to the Jim Pattison Group. Since HIT Entertainment, the former owner of Guinness, also manages much more child-oriented things like Barney, Bob the Builder, Thomas & Friends, and Angelina Ballerina, we once again have to call this arrangement a good fit.
On that note, no changes to or combination of Guinness World Records and Ripley's Believe It or Not have been announced; seekers of freak shows should be able to go about their business the same as always.

Sad day
It's a sad day for Guinness World Records. Over here in the UK, Ripley is unknown pretty much, and Guinness World Records is the all seeing, all knowing of records. Very sad day indeed.
