Expect Egyptian and Indian Traffic to Tank

Cut cables mean cut in pageviews

Webmasters who target Indian, Egyptian, and/or Middle Eastern users may see a considerable drop in traffic from those countries over the next week and a half to two weeks. An undersea cable network was somehow cut, causing massive Internet blackouts in the area.

Reuters reports that what severed the underwater cables is yet unknown, but as much as 70 percent of Egypt's network was affected, and a 50-60 percent drop in bandwidth in India.

Many larger operators have rerouted and restored connectivity, but much of the region is still affected. In addition to webmasters relying of traffic from these regions, businesses relying on email have suffered as well.

The report said the stock markets in the areas were also negatively impacted as many traders were "trading blind." India's numerous call centers were also affected.
