As the economy tanks, it's likely that we'll have to write about more and more people getting fired from their jobs. Luckily, Steve Pogorzelski, Monster.com's executive vice president of global sales and customer development, appears to be leaving under better conditions.
Peter Kafka reports one strange fact in the matter: "He'll be replaced by... no one, apparently. Monster says its sales team will report directly to CEO Sal Iannuzzi." And a lack of explanation on this front seems ominous; under normal conditions, a CEO might only take over another person's job if he (or she) were pushed into doing so by time constraints.
But thanks to a related detail, we're still convinced that everyone is more or less friends. It turns out that Pogorzelski plans to stick around Monster in an advisory capacity for three months, and this makes any fired-or-stormed-out scenario highly unlikely.
Also, in an internal memo circulated by Joel Cheesman, Iannuzzi wrote, "Steve Pogorzelski has decided to leave the company. Steve has been an important contributor of the Company's global success since Monster's inception. We thank Steve for his many years of dedicated service and appreciate his numerous contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors."
As the Dow sits down another 120 points, we can say, without sarcasm, "hurray for a happy ending."
