Aussies Developing Social Search Site For Health

For wallaby stings and kangaroo bites

Australian researchers are looking to search technology and social networking tenets to build a go-to website for health information and developments specifically designed for the "Australian context."

Aussies Developing Social Search Site For Health

For those of us relatively clueless about life in Australia and prefer our preconceptions to be timelessly congruent and unaltered by this information superhighway development, that Australian context includes what do when a crocodile latches onto your Fosters-wielding, cork-hat wearing mate.

But in reality it has more to do with Australia-specific common diseases like Ross River Fever, Q Fever and melanoma, and a few others that are more Earthly universal like whooping cough, chronic fatigue, and breast cancer.

Researchers at the University of New South Wales are forging a project that will combine search technology and social networking techniques to create a sort of resource that has not only information about common Australian ailments, but also tracks disease progression.

When we're finished Crocodile Dundeeing everything we see out of Australia, maybe we'll come up with something similar – as in geographically-based health resources. Sounds like something that has great potential.
