Vista Adoptions Rising, Says CDW

Not everyone asked for the XP option
Technology reseller CDW said a survey of businesses found 35 percent of respondents have some kind of movement to Windows Vista underway.

Though the latest operating system from Microsoft suffered enough backlash that the company had to extend the availability of Windows XP, businesses have been grinding through the process of migrating in increasing numbers.

When CDW conducted its third Windows Vista Tracking Poll, they found 35 percent of the responders had migrations in some phase of completion.

That may sound like reason to chuckle for Vista's detractors. But in February 2007, only 12 percent of respondents to the Poll had migration efforts taking them up to Vista.

In the current Poll, CDW said out of the migrating companies, 13 percent finished their Vista implementations. A third of the respondents believed they would finish up ongoing moves to Vista by May of this year.

Even better for Microsoft, companies in the Poll also showed increased numbers of Office adoptions. The Office productivity suite represents one of Microsoft's big revenue streams, along with its operating system business.

CDW said 24 percent of respondents upgraded to Office 2007. In February 2007, only 6 percent had done so. By the end of 2008, another 23 percent should have moved up to Office 2007.
