Shoppers can find Dell computers in retail stores.  Any displays aren't likely to feature neon arrows and all-caps lettering, however, as various people have noted that there's not an all-out push taking place.

Take Dell's work with Best Buy as an example.  Best Buy is widely credited with putting CompUSA out of business, and whether or not this is exactly the case, the electronics chain has been hugely successful.  So did Dell shove everything it makes onto Best Buy's shelves?  Hardly.

Christopher Lawton reports, "Best Buy Director Jason Bonfig says the retailer could have stocked all of Dell's products, but instead 'it was, "Let's find the right things for both of us."'  And a similar thought process seems to have occurred concerning Dell and Wal-Mart.

This is likely to keep Dell from selling as many PCs as it might at these physical locations.  However, it may also keep customers from forgetting about Dell's online buying process, and from a corporate point of view, there's no point in sharing sales and profits if it's unnecessary.

Dell's competition with other manufacturers will, of course, affect its decisions, but this process may still reveal some interesting trends about online and offline product sales.
