Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda posted a New Years greeting in both Japanese and English on YouTube.

In the English-language version, the Prime Minister talks about the challenges facing the world and said Japan would play a larger role internationally. "Of these challenges, those that concern the environment seriously affect all who live on this earth. Japan's mission is to play a major role on this area," Fukuda said.
"To be successful, co-operation in the global community is very important. I wish to do my best to make Japan a peace co-operation state, which means we will contribute to creating a world where people can live peacefully," he continued.
The video was posted on the Liberal Democratic Party's official YouTube channel, which launched in December. The most watched video on the channel is from LDP multimedia chief Taro Kono welcoming users to the channel, which has been viewed 50,000 times.
Fukuda will appear frequently on the channel according to Kono. "The LDP is the very first Japanese party to launch a channel on YouTube. I hope you tune in when you have nothing else to do," Kono said in a clip.
