November Search Share: Google Still Tops

Dominance, thy name is market share

Fewer queries entering search engines in a soft November didn't hurt Google's market share, but Yahoo and Ask gave up a little bit.

Microsoft's search sites hung around at 9.8 percent of US searches according to measurement firm comScore, unchanged from October to November. Time Warner gained to 4.5 percent from 4.2.

That wasn't enough to Ask out of fourth place, with its 4.6 percent in November. Yahoo dropped by 0.4 percent to 22.4 percent market share, good enough for a solid second place position.

Google thrived in a slow month, padding another 0.2 percent to their market share to grab 58.6 percent of queries in the month.

ComScore said Americans conducted 10 billion searches in November from work, home, and university locations. That was a five percent drop from October.

Google accepted nearly 5.9 billion searches in November, followed by Yahoo site picking up 2.2 billion. Microsoft took in 984 million searches, followed by Ask and Time Warner, running closely at 463 million and 453 million respectively.
