Steve Webb Un-Suspended From Facebook

Member of British Parliament not a fake

It's hard to blame Facebook for trying to remove phony profiles - the social networking site has often been made fun of for, say, having over a dozen Jack Sparrows onboard.  Facebook's employees accidentally went too far, though, when they disabled the profile of a member of the British Parliament.

Steve WebbSteve Webb has something in the neighborhood of 2,500 Facebook friends.  He also, in August, made headlines for investigating which political party used Facebook the most.  (A BBC article even has a screenshot of Webb's profile.)  Hence the prominence (and humor) of this mess.

Everything's back to normal now, however.  On the wall of a "Steve Webb is real!" Facebook group, Webb appeared and wrote, "Yes folks, it's true - I really do exist - Facebook have confirmed it."  He also included a message sent by a Facebook representative.

"I'm very sorry for the confusion here," the note began.  "Your account has been reactivated and I've made an internal note indicating that this profile is indeed real.  We received a report that indicated that this was an impostor account, but after further investigation, it is obviously real. Thanks for your patience on this matter, and I apologize for any inconvenience.  Let me know if you have any further questions or problems."

With a hat tip to Kerron Cross, then, we'll just leave well enough alone.
