Tips on using privacy features in Google's products are the focus of new videos appearing on the company's YouTube Privacy Channel.

Google can't discuss the forthcoming 700MHz auction publicly now that they are in the running. That had been the topic of a few posts on their Public Policy blog, but FCC rules have closed that issue from discussion.

Until that auction ends, the Public Policy bloggers need new topics. Their latest post covers privacy, an issue of ongoing concern to many Internet users.

Senior privacy counsel Jane Horvath summarized some of the content of newly released videos covering how to make Google's services a little more privacy friendly:

These videos feature Googlers sharing privacy tips, like how to use Google Chat’s “Off the Record” feature, how to limit the number of people who can view your Picasa photos, how to unlist your phone number from Google search results, and how to make the details of your Google Calendar entries private.

Privacy concerns about Google have become a topic at the highest levels of government, in the US and the European Union, over the company's proposed acquisition of DoubleClick. Demonstrating a proactive approach to communicating privacy features could help the perception these decision makers have of Google.
