Dainik Jagran claims to be “India’s largest read daily with a total readership of 53.6 million readers.” And that means a lot of eyeballs could soon see the name Yahoo, as Yahoo India has launched a site with the Jagran Group.

Hindi News and current affairs are the name of the game, and the two companies should share whatever revenue comes as a result of the project. Moreover, Yahoo’s small and mid-size business products will get a promotional boost.
“This is a partnership that will reshape the online Hindi news and current affairs landscape - in terms of customer experience, user engagement and monetization,” promised Aparna Pujar, the director of Yahoo India’s Products, Media and Entertainment division. “Yahoo! India and Jagran will together provide the most compelling experience . . . to our users who constitute over 80% of India’s online audience.”
Yahoo used to make deals in India on what seemed like a weekly basis, and for a while, things slowed down. The
arrangement with the Jagran Group seems to represent part of a pickup, however, as we’ve also seen Yahoo get involved with some
mobile carriers and a
wind turbine project.
