If there’s one thing that people like to do (besides eat, sleep, and “be friendly”), it’s complain. A new Yahoo Local feature lets them make semi-productive suggestions, however, and in an ongoing test, this seems to be a popular compromise.
The idea of a community suggestion board isn’t revolutionary. Despite that fact, the Yahoo Local Neighbor site are overcoming the initial lack of traffic that most new services and products face; one for Sacramento (spotted by Elinor Mills) already has ten different ideas posted on it.
What’s more, people are allowed to vote and comment on these ideas (with a thumbs up or thumbs down), and as many as 14 opinions have been made known on a single subject. Granted, that’s not a bunch, but there are probably many more people out there who didn’t bother to click.
The one problem with this setup, though, is what will become of the suggestions. Even if some people are willing to whine all day, other users will quickly notice if there are no responses from city officials or companies. Then they’ll leave.
Elinor Mills reports, “Following a three- to six-month trial, the feature will roll out nationally.”
