Facebook's New York Office Fails To Impress

When someone gets a new house or apartment, visitors generally feel obliged to “ooh” and “aah” a bit for the owner’s sake.  Prices and pics of Facebook’s New York office have circulated, however, and they’re creating more of a “you-paid-what?!?” effect.

The structure in which the office is located looks nice enough, yet Peter Kafka, who’s been tracking down all these details, writes, “[I]t’s considered a ‘B’ building by commercial real estate standards, and it’s not really wired for state-of-the-art IT companies.”  1927 - the year the building was finished - was a long time ago, after all.

Also, the interior of Facebook’s office is not “bad” in any way that’ll interfere with work or endanger employees, but it reminds me of a poorly funded middle school.

So what’s the price tag for about 5,300 square feet of decidedly unimpressive office space?  $29,000 per month, according to Kafka.  Those of you who are familiar with New York real estate are welcome to weigh in on the matter, but to most of us, that sounds rather expensive.

Other companies are sure to see a silver lining in all this, though - the state of things at Facebook’s New York office may keep more of their employees from abandoning ship.
